It’s time for a little more explanation of the music on the album, starting with ‘All U Writers’ which you should definitely know all the words to by now. We spent a week jamming and recording in Sacramento. When we got back Nic and Rafael took one of the jams and independently made two totally different songs. Nic found a way to combine them. It is one of those !!! songs, like ‘Slyd’, that works to it’s own logic rather than conventional song form. We referenced this Nina Kraviz song ‘Ghetto Kraviz for the structure.
Then ‘Bam City’, track 8 on ‘As If’, a beat that came about from a week of obsessively listening to Jam City. I think we bit by bit cut out any parts that sound like that, and it now sounds something like Sparks if they had their dance music phase now instead of 30 years ago. one of the few things we did with Jim Eno on this record and a great example of the kind of production he can do.Tweet
